Large scale exchange deployment "Hosting"
Management has decided that I have to prepare budget request for enormous amount of users, which will use exchange services as part of solution packet, which we will provide to them. I have to prepare budget request for next four years. Because management target is about 500.000+ users, that will use OWA & outlook. Users will have mailbox size 1GB, but it can be increase to larger size. SPAM and Antivirus filtering is included. Encryption is optional. Well because I do not have experience in these kind deployments, I have some questions, how to calculate Hardware requirement for these solution. I could start like 500.000 users * 1GB mailbox = 500TB storage requirement for exchange mailbox + average user daily transfer rate like 50 MB /daily * 500.000 users = 25 TB/daily lo g data- Memory requirement like number concurrent users, and number of OWA standard/lite users, and so on. Thats translate to number of CPU, memory, and so on. There has to be margin for additional clients and increase mailbox size. I would be grateful, for some help. Thank you for your replay Calculating hardware needs

Tough Job Man. Its not only HW sizing that you have to do, top of that there are lot of things that you need to calculate viz. network, CALs, hosting tools like HMC or DNP, SQL as back end for hosting tools, NLB devices etc. I have done this earlier it took almost 3 weeks to give a complete budget for 100K users.Raj

I`m putting together resources, by the list, like I need DotNetPanel, licence information, what HW requirements, ..MS ISP licensing model, Everything in one big Excell workbook, and so on. I parallel I have to prepare VOD/Streaming solution for SD/HD content, and so on It is a headache. I thing, that management, does not realize, how big is the problem.. If you have any hint, documentation, links, I would be very grateful. You can send mi information directly to my office e-mail. Borut@medianos.tv Borut

Alright Start from here. The Good thing is EX2007 supports Windows Hyper-V server. So you need to design the hardware consideration. and rest just refer below guides Exchange 2007 Sizing Cheat Sheet http://www.msexchange.org/articles-tutorials/exchange-server-2007/planning-architecture/exchange-2007-sizing-cheat-sheet.html Eveything over here Preparing to Deploy Exchange 2007 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa995902.aspx Deploying a Complex Exchange Server 2007 Organization http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=32BA768D-9727-464A-B7E2-3E037D61A8D6&displaylang=en Vinod |CCNA|MCSE 2003 +Messaging|MCTS|ITIL V3|

Let me see the document that i have and i will get back to you. Just one hint: Go for a SPLA agreement with Microsoft. Thats the recommneded way of buying licences for Hosted Solutions. Also DNP is for mid size requirement. Probabaly the Best one for your large size requirement will HMC.Raj
